Monaghan United  0 UCD  0: DEFENSIVE tenacity earned Monaghan United a replay with the Premier Division's UCD at Kingspan Century Park last night.

The Students missed a first-half penalty and several other chances against a side reduced to 10 men before the end.

UCD dominated the first half but kept squandering chance after chance, the most painful being Shane Fitzgerald's penalty miss on the half-hour. After being felled in the box by Kevin Williamson, Fitzgerald watched as his spot kick was saved by Brendan Kennedy.

United's only effective attacking outlet was the busy Darren Meenan, who came close to exploiting a weak defensive header from Alan McNally only to be thwarted by Matt Gregg.
