GALWEGIANS - 35 CARLOW - 23: After a tremendous start to the season Carlow are now finding the going difficult and this was emphasised clearly at Oak Park on Saturday as the home side went down to a 12- point defeat by visitors Galwegians.

GFormer Irish international Eric Elwood scored a try, three penalties and three conversions in very difficult conditions, his only blemish being a missed conversion from near the sideline.

Elwood scored a brace of early penalties and then in the 13th minute a superb kick out of his own half by Galwegians scrumhalf Bryan Shelbourne was carried on by the superb Michael Swift at number eight who fed Elwood , who went in under the posts and added the points from the conversion. At half-time Co Carlow trailed 23-8 and were in deeper arrears five minutes into the second half when Gerard Brady collected in his own half and raced on unopposed for a try.
