Sir, – An Garda Síochána has apologised to Joanne Hayes for wrongfully accusing her of murder, more than 30 years ago. Presumably, that apology will appear on the front page of every newspaper for several weeks, just as her initial ordeal did. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Joanne Hayes has finally , after 34 years , got an apology from the Garda for the accusation of killing a baby boy who was found on a beach in south Kerry. She and her family were bullied and subjected to dreadful intimidation during that awful time. Will she get an apology from the State? Will she finally get some compensation for the pain and distress she suffered then and all the years of knowing her good name was taken from her? I hope justice is finally given to her. – Yours, etc,
