Sir, – As a Protestant living in Ireland who believes passionately in building good relations across our communities, I am deeply disappointed to see Garvaghy Road become a source of confrontation this week.
Almost three decades of progress should not be taken for granted. We need to protect what has been achieved rather than reopen the divisions of the past. – Yours, etc,

Dublin.
Sir, – John Dillon’s solution to the Garvaghy Road Orange march is to discombobulate the marchers by having the residents applauding and cheering them from the sidelines (“Applause for Orangemen?”, Letters, October 1st).
I must say that I was very disappointed that, as a Regius professor of Greek (Emeritus), he didn’t suggest getting the marchers up the road inside a Trojan Horse. – Yours, etc,
