Christian Brothers should ask themselves: what would Edmund Ignatius Rice do?

CBS leaders should make a single member nomination for civil legal cases

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – I was a Francis Street CBS pupil from 1945 and onwards. The brave letter from Dr Patrick McCormack (Letters, August 11th) is moving in its simplicity.

I would like to support the proposal for CBS leaders to make a single member nomination for civil legal cases.

My experience in Francis Street CBS in my childhood and more recently has made me very thankful for the education they provide. I never saw or heard of such abuse in “Franner”, old and new.

I hope the Brothers don’t forget their Christian appellation and will go back to the hopes of the founder, Edmund Ignatius Rice, to see plainly where their moral duty lies. − Yours, etc,

SEAN O’CONNOR,

Rathmines,

Dublin 6.
