Sir, – After reading an excellent analysis on the fantasy targets set by Government by Cliff Taylor, followed up by a request from Fintan O’Toole for more candour from Government to improve trust in democracy, my response to the solar eclipse has changed (“Most of Ireland’s big targets on housing, infrastructure and families are stuff of fiction,” Opinion, August 8th).
To be frank, I expect a candid press release from the Government to explain why this year we will miss a total eclipse of the sun by a couple of hundred kilometres despite preparing for it since 1999.
This could be followed up with the assurance that a group of consultants will work on a strategic plan to deliver a total eclipse by 2090. – Yours, etc,
