Cork hurling manager Denis Walsh has been given a one-year extension to the contract he signed just weeks ago.

The St Catherine’s clubman requested his two-year deal be extended at a county board meeting yesterday, after he took over from Gerald McCarthy with most of the league season already complete.

The deal, which was unanimously ratified, will see him remain with the Rebels until at least the end of the 2011 season.

"He requested the extension himself and it was mentioned from the floor," said Gerard Lane, the Cork County Board press officer. "The extension was then approved unanimously."
