Brazil 3 Ivory Coast 1: Brazil are through to the last 16 of the World Cup but their 3-1 win over the Ivory Coast descended into farce in the closing stages after shocking display from French referee Stéphane Lannoy.

The Ivorians were angered by the official's decision to allow Luis Fabiano's second goal early in the second half after the striker appeared to handle the ball twice before volleying it into the net. Lannoy even appeared to share a joke with the Sevilla frontman about it afterwards.

When the Ivory Coast took revenge into their own hands and meted out the punishment to the Brazilians, Lannoy failed to adequately punish numerous dangerous tackles and then gave Kaka a second yellow card after being conned by Keita into thinking the Real Madrid star elbowed him in the face.

By that time, Kaka had set up Fabiano for his first and Elano for Brazil's third, before Didier Drogba plundered a consolation by heading home Yaya Toure's delivery.
