A pedestrian was killed in Limerick city last night when she was hit by a car.

A pedestrian was killed in Limerick city last night when she was hit by a car.

The woman, understood to be in her late 50s, was knocked down at  Rivers, Castletroy, Limerick, at 9.10pm last night. Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

She has not been named.

A total of 173 people have died on the State's roads so far this year, compared with 204 in the same period last year.
