Oaks winner Look Here retired

Racing: Look Here, the 2008 Oaks winner, has been retired

Racing:Look Here, the 2008 Oaks winner, has been retired. Ralph Beckett's four-year-old filly signs off after a disappointing run in the EP Taylor Stakes in Canada over the weekend.

Beckett said: "She won't run again, she will go back to her owners in Northamptonshire and we will make plans to cover her in the spring.

"She was brilliant for us, she did us the power of good."

In addition to her brilliant Oaks triumph, Look Here also finished third behind subsequent Breeders' Cup Turf winner Conduit in last year's Ladbrokes St Leger.

But despite finishing an agonising third in the Coronation Cup this June, she could not replicate her Classic-winning campaign of 2008, failing to win in five starts.

Beckett added: "Things just didn't go her way this year.

"We were in front two hops from the line in the Coronation Cup, and got mugged on the line in the Group Three at Newbury (Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial)."

Reflecting on the win in the Oaks and her three-year-old career, Beckett said: "We never expected it. I remember having lunch beforehand and we said if she could finish in the first six that would be great.

"That was genuinely what we thought because she had never been a flash worker.

"We never had an inkling she would win like she did.

"It all worked out so well, but then we had health issues before the Yorkshire Oaks. We had laid her out for that and had to miss it.

"Then we were left with a choice between the Vermeille and the Leger, and went for the Leger - which turned out to be probably the best Leger of recent times.

"We have a couple of nice two-year-olds for her owners and hopefully we can have some more success for them."

Look Here will now return to owner Julian Richmond-Watson's Wakefield Lodge Estate in Northamptonshire.

She retires having accrued nearly £350,000 in prize-money from a nine-race career.
