Mr Michael Griffin of Doon Road, Ballybunion, who is single, was cycling towards his home at the time. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. Gardaí in Ballybunion/Listowel are appealing for witnesses.

No one was injured when a mini tornado in Derrnacross, Co Longford early yesterday afternoon, swept a mobile home in the air, and about 15 yards across a road and into a near-by field. A spokeswoman for Met Éireann said a tornado with this force occurs about once a year here, and affects a small localised area and usually goes unnoticed.

On this occasion, Met Éireann said the tornado was a "funnel cloud" that probably had a diametre of one metre and reached speeds of 50 miles an hour.
