A man in his sixties died after falling from a height in a workplace accident on Monday.

The man was carrying out contract work at the offices of engineering consultancy firm Arup in Ringsend.

He fell from the roof down a shaft in the multi-storey building while carrying out works. The alarm was raised at approximately 1.15pm and emergency services attended the scene.

Gardaí said the local coroner was notified and the body of the man has since been removed to Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem will be carried out.

The Health and Safety Authority, which investigates workplace fatalities, was notified.

A spokeswoman for Arup confirmed the death of the man. “The emergency services were called immediately, and the Health and Safety Authority arrived on site to carry out an investigation,” she said.

“Our Dublin office is closed while this takes place and we are working closely with the authorities as they seek to establish the facts around this tragic incident.

“We cannot comment while the investigation is under way. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.”
