Gardaí in Wexford town are looking for three men after a taxi-driver was stabbed and beaten last night.

Gardaí in Wexford town are looking for three men after a taxi-driver was stabbed and beaten last night.

The man (63)  was stabbed in the back of the neck by a back seat passenger, while the front seat passenger struck him over the head with a hammer.

The victim managed to escape from his car and reach a nearby house, where he raised the alarm.

The man, who underwent surgery this morning at Wexford General Hospital, is in a serious condition, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A small amount of money was stolen from the taxi, which was found abandoned in a housing estate.
