Dakar Rally:French motorcyclist Pascal Terry has been found dead three days after going missing while competing in the Dakar Rally in Argentina, organisers said.

The 49-year-old's  body was discovered today on a remote part of the second stage between Santa Rosa de la Pampa and Puerto Madryn.

Matthieu Desplats, a spokesman for Paris-based Amaury Sport Organisation, said; "He was in the middle of  nowhere, about 10 metres from his motorbike and with his helmet removed. There was nothing special to indicate why he died."

It's the first death of a competitor in the 2009 event, which was relocated to Argentina and  Chile this year following security concerns in northern Africa that prompted the cancellation of last year's edition.

More than 20 racers have died in crashes since the inaugural Dakar Rally in 1979.
