The Dutch Court of Appeal yesterday formally opened an appeal by the Dublin criminal, George Mitchell, against the severity of a 30-month prison sentence imposed by a lower court in the Netherlands last year.

The jailed Irishman, who comes from Drimnagh, was not present for yesterday's short hearing, nor was he legally represented in court. After formally registering Mitchell's appeal, the court adjourned the proceedings until May 11th.
