Two arrested in connection with Ballyfermot shooting

A man and a woman detained in relation to killing of Michael Tormey last Sunday

Two people have been arrested in connection with the killing of Michael Tormey, who was shot dead in Ballyfermot, Dublin last Sunday.

A man in his early 40s and a woman in her late 30s were being detained at Garda stations in west Dublin on Thursday night under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Gardaí said investigations are still ongoing.

Mr Tormey (49), who worked as a salesman and as a doorman in the security sector, was a married father with no known links to crime. He was shot dead outside his home on Thomond Road, Ballyfermot, just after 4.30am last Sunday.

The dead man’s wife and their young daughter were asleep in the house when the fatal gun attack occurred.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for anyone with information in relation to this incident to get in contact.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the Thomond Road, Landen Road, Kylemore Road or the general Decies area between 3.30am and 5.30am on Sunday morning, January 9th.

A funeral Mass for Mr Tormey is due to take place on Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Ballyfermot followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium.
