Over 10 million cigarettes seized at Dublin Port

Gold Classic brand worth €4.6m arrived on ferry from Rotterdam

Some 10.4million cigarettes were seized by customs officers at Dublin Port today after arriving on a container shipped from Rotterdam.

The Gold Classic brand with an estimated street value of €4.6m were discovered by Revenue Customs officers in an unaccompanied container which arrived on a ferry from the Netherlands.

The find was part of an ongoing intelligence-led operation targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes. The tobacco products represented a potential €3.7m loss to the Exchequer.

Revenue is continuing its investigations into the haul.
