A man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Co Galway last night.
The 41-year-old sustained head injuries in an incident in Cullairbaun Estate in Athenry at about 11.30pm.
He was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
Gardaí are investigating the incident.
They have requested that anyone who was in the area between 11pm and midnight to contact Galway Garda station on (091) 538000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
