A 25-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the shooting of a brother and sister in Co Limerick yesterday.

The shooting happened in broad daylight at Castle View Estate as children played nearby.

Gerard Hennessy (34) and his sister Collette, who is also in her 30s, suffered injuries to the upper body when a lone gunman fired at them before fleeing the scene.

It’s understood Ms Hennessy also suffered an injury to her hand.

Mr Hennessy was airlifted to University Hospital Cork, while his sister was taken to University Hospital Limerick.

None of their injuries are life-threatening.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning. He is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Newcastle West Garda station. He can be held for up to three days.
