Man arrested after taking late night swim in the Liffey

Man in his 20s arrested under Public Order Act and to appear in court in October

A man in his twenties was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning after taking a late night swim in the Liffey.

The alarm was raised at about 1am on Monday when a man was spotted swimming in the Liffey off Burgh Quay on the southside of the river.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man, who was not injured, was removed from the water. He was taken to Pearse Street Garda station and arrested under the Public Order Act.

The man was released this morning.
