Conference in Waterford on new software technology system

Among the companies attending will be WalMart, Yahoo!, Skype and Paypal

Some of the world's leaders in cloud computing will be in Ireland next month for a major conference on a new software technology system. Waterford Castle will hold the three-day conference on node.js technology.

Almost 200 web developers and technologists from around the world will be in Waterford for the node conference from September 9th-11th. Among the companies there will be WalMart, Yahoo!, Skype and Paypal.

Node.js was invented by American scientist Ryan Dahl in 2009, and one of its main backers in Ireland is Richard Roger, formerly chief architect with the TSSG research centre in Waterford and founding chief technology officer with cloud computing specialists FeedHenry.

“Node is highly efficient, using fewer servers to do the job, while catering for the development of mobile apps and the ever-widening range of smart-phones and devices,” he said.

Mr Roger is the author of a book on building mobile apps and later went on to found nearForm with Cian Ó Maidín, now employing 20 people.

The company has established Ireland as Europe’s centre for the node.js technology, a key factor in bringing the conference to Waterford. They previously organised the critically acclaimed NodeDublin conference, the first to be run in Europe.
