UCC's hopes of defending both the Mauritius and Chilean Cups, the intervarsity hockey competitions, remain intact after their men's and women's teams qualified for today's semi-finals at Dardistown.

An early-morning 2-0 victory over Trinity College in the Mauritius Cup was followed by a 7-0 thrashing, which included a Killian Deasy hat-trick, of the Royal College of Surgeons and sent UCC's men through to the semifinals where they will meet Queen's University. Trinity College and the University of Limerick meet in the other semi-final.

Queen's also provide the opposition for the UCC women's team in the last four of the Chilean Cup after the Belfast students' victories over RCSI and UCG in Pool A. Trinity, who play the University of Limerick in their semi-final, are the team in form after beating traditional rivals UCD, with a Jan Perrin goal, and the RCSI in the host's third 7-0 defeat of the day.
