Pool B: England v Tonga

If England thought they would be able to quickly forget about their morale-sapping defeat by the All Blacks, they will be quickly disabused today in the clash with Tonga.

The South Pacific islanders are coached by Kiwi Dave Waterston and feature Sonatane `Johnny' Koloi at flanker, the second cousin of New Zealand's wing Jonah Lomu.

"Destroyer of souls I am" is how the Tongan pre-match war dance goes, and England coach Clive Woodward knows his team will need to stand up and be counted for what is expected to be one of the most physical clashes of the tournament.

Tonga's last-gasp victory over Italy means they can qualify for the quarter-final play-offs by pulling off a shock triumph in their first ever match against England.

The Tongans have already cranked up the war of words in the build up to the match with Waterston furious over what he sees as double standards in the new disciplinary crackdown.

Tonga will not include full-back Siua Taumalolo, suspended for for three weeks for violent play, and Waterston feels justice is not being meted out even handedly.

"Did no one see Lawrence Dallaglio knee Jonah Lomu on Saturday or the fly-half Wilkinson put in that high tackle?" he said.

"It would appear to me that there is one rule for the rich and one rule for the poor in this tournament."

England have made six changes in all, among them a first cap for bigtackling Wasps flanker Joe Worsley.

Phil Greening, Graham Rowntree and Garath Archer are also called upon to beef up a pack in need of a rest after the exertions of the last fortnight.

Pool A: South Africa v Uruguay

Henry Honiball's miserable World Cup campaign has suffered another major setback after he was ruled out of today's game against Uruguay at Hampden Park.

The South African out-half, who was also pulled out of the Springboks' opening game against Scotland and subsequent group match against Spain, suffered a recurrence of his hamstring problem during training.

He will be replaced again by Jannie de Beer as the defending champions go for a third win and a place in the quarter-final.

The Springboks put in one of their worst-ever international performances last Sunday against a Spanish team they were comfortably expected to beat by at least a 100-point margin.

The final score of 47-3 actually flattered the Springboks, who made a lamentable 22 handling errors.

Meanwhile, Uruguay skipper Diego Ormaechea (40), the oldest player in this year's World Cup, has confirmed he will retire after his country's final group game.
