SCOTLAND'S Allister McRae drove his Ford Escort RS Cosworth to victory on the weekend's Pirelli International Rally.

Run out of Carlisle, this event saw Welshman Gwyndaf Evans finish second, to consolidate his lead in the British Rally Championships, run to Formula Two regulations, and for which his works Ford Escort RS2000 is eligible. McRae's Group A car is not eligible, however.

Steven Petch was third in a Subaru Impreza, but the big surprise was David Mann's fourth overall at the wheel of a Proton Persona, the highest place to date by a Malaysian car in a European International rally. Mann also collected maximum Production Cup points.
