JUSTIN BENSON, who missed Ireland's final cricket match of the season against Scotland at Linlithgow last month, has been appointed captain for the ICC Trophy competition in Malaysia next March. He is included in the 16 man panel named yesterday. The selectors also announced a reserve panel of nine players.

Leinster is not well represented in either group, with just three players - vice-captain Alan Lewis, Angus Dunlop and Owen Butler - in the main panel.

Declan Moore, who scored a first innings half century against Scotland, is in the back up squad, as are John Davy, Peter Davy, Jason Molins and Greg Molins.

Some 22 nations will contest the ICC Trophy, the qualifying tournament for the World Cup.
