MARY BARNWELL scored her second hat trick in two matches for Loreto in the team's 4-1 victory over division one newcomers Trinity on Saturday. The three points put last year's Leinster League runners up on top of the table, after three games, ahead of Old Alexandra on goal difference.

Mary Logue also picked up her second hat trick of the season in a 6-0 thrashing of Clontarf, bringing the champions' goals tally to 13 in just three games.

Meanwhile, Hermes suffered their first defeat of the season at Whitechurch Park despite going a goal up. Old Alexandra fought back to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season courtesy of a Deirdre Deasy winner. Glenanne won their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw away to Pembroke Wanderers but Maids' defeat at home to Railway Union leaves them at the bottom of the table with Clontarf.

In the first round of the Ulster Shield, Pegasus and Ards both scored 13 goals in victories over Knock and Jordanstown, respectively, with Irish captain Jeanette Turner scoring four of the Pegasus goals.
