Bosch oven series: ‘This is cooking for people with busy lives’

The Bosch Serie 4, 6 and 8 oven range offers functionality and performance that saves time and retains quality of food

People are getting busier all the time, and the ability to pull together a home-cooked meal every day is becoming virtually impossible.

But what if the appliances you used made your life significantly easier in the kitchen, reducing cooking times and allowing you to cook many varied dishes simultaneously?

That’s exactly what the Bosch oven series, including Serie 4, 6 and 8, does.

“This is cooking for people with busy lives; parents who are working in full-time jobs but want to make their kids a healthy meal in the evening,” says Bosch consultant Susan Carroll.

Very often people buy an oven but then never get past the rudimentary functions

Carroll works in the Bosch showroom in Ballymount, Co Dublin, where a range of kitchen products are shown to potential buyers. They learn the functions of the products, either through one-to-one consultations, or by attending one of the numerous cookery workshops and demonstrations hosted there.

Very often people buy an oven but then never get past the rudimentary functions, but with the demonstrations on offer at the showroom, potential buyers get a clearer picture of what these ovens have to offer and what it is they want from their own oven.

Serie 4 and 6

Carroll explains some of the many standout features on offer with the Bosch oven series. One of the key attributes of the ovens in the series, Serie 4 and Serie 6, is 3D HotAir. “This helps cooking by maintaining the right temperature across all the shelf levels, and enables you to get multiple items in the oven at the same time without the mingling of flavours,” Carroll says.

AutoPilot is another feature of both Serie 4 and 6 and is optimal when used for cooking meat, fish, vegetables and stews. Based on weight selections, it automatically sets the heating mode, temperature and duration needed, ensuring every dish is a perfect success.

Many of the ovens have the added benefit of pyro cleaning. With pyrolysis self-cleaning, time-consuming scrubbing is removed and cleaning of the oven is carried out automatically – also without the use of chemical cleaning products. Depending on the degree of soiling, the appliance heats up to max. 485°C and all that is left is ash which is easy to wipe clean.

Serie 4 highlight: Slim Universal Pan

Unique to Serie 4 is the two-piece Slim Universal Pan which is ideal when cooking for those with different food preferences, allowing you to cook smaller quantities, different foods or food combinations at the same time. “The pan is half the width of the universal baking tray and can transfer from oven to dishwasher easily,” Carroll says.

Serie 6 highlight: Single Point Meat Probe

To help take the mystery out of cooking, is the feature that is universally loved among Bosch owners: the Single Point Meat Probe, which comes as standard with Serie 6. The single-point sensor measures the temperature at the core of the meat and as soon as the desired temperature is reached the oven sounds and switches off automatically. This means no constant checking of the joint of meat and no overcooking or drying out. The probe connects to the oven internally via a plug-in jack and the user manual gives core temperature guidance for cooking results. “It takes all of the guesswork out of cooking meat,” Carroll says.

Serie 8

Moving to the next level, Serie 8 comes with 4D Hot Air, allowing you to bake and roast simultaneously on up to four levels without smells and flavours becoming intermingled. So you can roast your chicken and bake a cake at the same time without one becoming tarnished with the smells and flavours of the other.

This is intuitive technology and with the PerfectBake sensor, the oven measures the moisture content of your cake and automatically adjusts the type of heat, time and temperature required.

For tricky recipes that are lacking enough information on temperature or cooking times, Bosch Assist helps by selecting the desired dish in the control panel. This automatically sets the oven to the ideal heating mode, temperature and length of time needed.

When I was told I could cook part-boned chicken breasts in 12 minutes in one of these ovens, I didn't believe it

Whether it's steaming, added steam or steam cooking, some of the Serie 8 ovens also have functions that let you combine the advantages of steam with those of a regular oven.

One of the exceptional functions of someof the Series 8 ovens is the microwave function: the combination of conventional heating and on-demand microwave, which gives the same cooking results in half the time.

“When I was told I could cook part-boned chicken breasts in 12 minutes in one of these ovens, I didn’t believe it. But the meat cooked in exactly that time in a Bosch Serie 8 oven by combining both types of cooking and, more importantly, it came out tender, tasty and fully cooked,” Carroll says.

Most of the Serie 8 ovens come with the added benefit of Home Connect - Wifi connectivity that can be remotely controlled by an app. This allows you, among other things, to control the oven while not at home. For those who might find this level of functionality a little daunting, Carroll says, “There are so many levels of support when it comes to understanding these ovens; online videos, workshops and demos, and manuals. We are here to help with all of that.”
