Wood for the trees?

Sir, – John FitzGerald advises that production of beef should “shift to biomass or forestry” in the event of a hard Brexit (“Brexit prospects are bleak for beef producers”, Business Opinion, March 16th).

Does that mean that much of the west of Ireland which produces beef now should be planted with trees?

The question has to be asked as to what the consequences for the economic, social and infrastructural life of the people in large areas of the west of Ireland will be if that happens. – Yours, etc,
