Voting rights in a referendum

Sir, – I read that a case is being taken to the High Court in Dublin arguing that voters living outside this State should be allowed vote on amending our Constitution ("Student seeks rights for NI citizens to vote in abortion referendum", News, March 14th). So what next? Dáil Éireann to have a TD for the Isle of Man? Donegal's boundaries redrawn to include Rockall? Welsh-language signage around Rosslare Harbour?

Bunreacht na hÉireann enjoys no force or effect whatsoever outside the 26 counties (Article 3.1). The competency of amending it should be exclusively reserved to people who have to live under its laws. – Yours, etc,
