New Cork city library

Sir, – The Government has allocated €46 million for the construction of a new library and public realm in Cork city centre. This 21st-century library shouldn’t just be a library of books; it should also be a library of things. A place where you can borrow a guitar, a sewing machine or a chessboard. Such libraries are common in other countries but unheard of here.

It would be more sustainable and cost-effective if we bought less and borrowed more – this new library is a golden opportunity to facilitate such a shift.

– Is mise,

Cork City.
