Why are Irish names so difficult?

A chara, – Pádraic Harvey thinks he has a problem with his name (Letters, March 17th) and how people try to pronounce it. He should try mine for size.

I am regularly addressed as Saoirse. Letters are addressed to me with the prefix Ms.

I have been asked “what’s that in English”. One – Irish – government department kindly translated my name into English. As for síne fada – you can forget that.

I salute Wuraola Majekodunmi (Magazine, March 13th) for her bravery.

I can travel to any other country and not have a problem. Why is that? – Is mise
