Sir, – I refer to recent Government radio announcements advising households to leave out the brown bin for collection more frequently to avoid food waste becoming unfit for composting.
The problem is easily solved by separating food waste from garden waste as is the practice in the UK and elsewhere.
A smaller outdoor caddie (23 litres) for food waste is collected weekly allowing the brown bin (140 litres) to be used exclusively for garden waste.
This also eliminates the problem of foul smelling brown bins
