RTÉ adverts made me tune out years ago

Silence and the odd listen to Lyric FM now sets me right

Sir, – While I sympathise with Ed O’Neill (Letters, April 13th) on his disappointment with the amount of advertising on Newstalk, I don’t agree that RTÉ Radio is much better. All advertising is a waste of space and offensive to the ear and is best ignored.

I turned off RTÉ Radio about five years ago for this reason (and also because of the never-ending repetition of current affairs discussions and accompanying opinions). I have not missed it at all. Silence is better and more conducive to reflection, coupled with the odd listen to lovely Lyric FM on lazy afternoons. – Yours, etc,

JOHN GAFFNEY,
