Sir, – It was heartening to see Luas tram number 5037, a victim of an arson attack in the Dublin riots of November 2023, returning to Ireland following repair and refurbishment works in France.

The accompanying article (“The Luas Returns”, March 11th) questioning the time and cost of the process, compared to scrappage and purchase of a new tram, struck a mean-spirited note. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

To the much-maligned Transdev, Dublin commuters and, I imagine, the planet, say thank you. – Yours, etc,
