A 19-year-old Dublin woman told a Central Criminal Court jury yesterday that she woke up after drinking in a friend's house to find another guest raping her. The accused man was behind her having sex and smirked when she turned to look at him. Her woman friend, with whom she was sharing a single bed, was asleep on her other side.

She told Mr Liam Reidy SC, prosecuting, she realised her panties had been removed as she slept. She had gone to bed in a shirt, bra and panties. She did not make a complaint to the Garda for some days and only did so after her friend's mother threatened to reveal the incident.

In reply to Mr Barry White SC, defending, she denied that the accused had being lying on the bed covers, and not under them.

Her friend said she woke up and saw the accused under the bed covers. She agreed his penis was not exposed.
