Wicklow County Council appeared to be “starting from the beginning” in assessing an illegal dump discovered in Wicklow more than a decade ago, the High Court has been told.

Michael O’Donnell SC, for landowner Brownfield Restoration, was responding to an application from the council for an adjournment of its case involving an illegal dump discovered at Whitestown in 2001.

At yesterday’s resumed hearing, James Connolly SC, for the council, presented a letter outlining recent council progress on tests on soil and ground water. Mr Justice Daniel O’Keeffe set March 27th for the resumed hearing.

The council is seeking orders against Brownfield, which bought the land in 2003.
