In Cork, 11-year-old David Breeney of Glanworth died in a collision between two cars at Rathcormack, near Fermoy. His mother, who was driving one of the cars, was seriously injured in the crash.

The motorcyclist who died in a crash on the Headford Road in Galway City has been named as Gary Keady from Castlepark, who was in his early 20s.

In Dublin, a four-year-old girl died after the car she was being driven in crashed into a wall in the suburb of Clondalkin in the west of the city at around 9.30 p.m.

She was taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin where she died of her injuries.
