A Dublin step-uncle has been jailed for four years for indecent assault of his now 41-year-old niece in the late 1960s. The 47-year-old married man had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to 20 charges of buggery and rape offences on the victim in the years 1967-1970. Earlier, he pleaded guilty to 19 charges of indecent assault on the same victim in the same years. He has no previous convictions.
Mr Barry White SC, defending, asked Mr Justice Carney to take into consideration that the offences were committed while the defendant was in his teens.
