A taxi-driver is recovering in hospital after a gun attack in west Belfast. The 30-year-old man was shot in the legs outside a pub on the Grosvenor Road on Wednesday night when he stopped to pick up a fare outside Dwyer's Club.

The victim's relatives said he has no political connections. They said the masked gunmen claimed they were from the Official IRA.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man is also recovering in hospital after a so-called punishment shooting in North Belfast. He was abducted from the Diamond in Rathcoole on Wednesday night and found 30 minutes later suffering from gunshot wounds to both legs. Loyalists are believed to have been responsible.
