A man stopped for allegedly sexually harassing a woman has opened fire at a crowded railway station in Japan.

A man stopped for allegedly sexually harassing a woman has opened fire at a crowded railway station in Japan.

Police said two have been injured.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was being questioned by railway officials for allegedly groping a woman when he began shooting.

The shooting occurred near an exit of Sannomiya station in the city of Kobe, about 270 miles west of Tokyo.

Kyodo News agency identified the suspect as a 52-year-old gangster.

Sannomiya is Kobe's major business and entertainment district. It is also home to Japan's largest underworld syndicate, the Yamaguchi-gumi.
