Tobacco worth €50,000 seized in Dublin

Tobacco with a street value of €50,000 has been seized in North Dublin, the Revenue Commissioners said today.

Tobacco with a street value of €50,000 has been seized in North Dublin, the Revenue Commissioners said today.

Some 129,000 cigarettes and 11 kilograms of “roll-your-own” tobacco were found during a series of co-ordinated searches of three premises.

Customs Officers based in Dublin Port as well as gardai carried out the searches and more are planned, a spokesman said.

"We are confident that information gleaned during this action will assist us in future operations”, he added.

The cigarettes seized Mayfair, Marlboro, L&M and Dorchester brands. A number of people are helping with enquiries and files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
