TAIPEI - The Taiwan Premier, Mr Lien Chan, said on television here that he will step down after constitutional reforms are completed later this year.

Mr Lien told Television Broadcasting Satellite (TVBS) late yesterday that "the on going constitutional reforms are the most important event for the security and safety of the country in the long term.

"I probably can say this to you - when the constitutional reforms are completed and carried out it should be time for me to leave office - to resign."
