Militants shot dead a soldier from the US-led occupation forces overnight as he tried to defuse a roadside bomb in Baghdad, a US spokesman said today.
The spokesman said the soldier was not a member of the US military, but declined to give his nationality.
He said coalition soldiers returned fire. US-led occupation forces blame militant attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein and foreign Islamic militants.
