More than 18,000 householders in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown will not have their bins collected from Thursday of next week, following the decision of Siptu to serve strike notice on the county council.

Siptu has served strike notice over plans by the local authority to outsource bin collections to a private company, Panda.

Siptu branch organiser Ramon O’Reilly said the county manager had taken a unilateral decision to discontinue waste collection by direct labour, in contravention of a Labour Relations Commission agreement.
