Michael Schumacher geared up for Ferrari's double title assault today with a dominant display in free practice for the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix.
The German, who can win his fourth championship on Sunday with four races to spare and also help Ferrari secure the constructors' title, was fastest on another hot afternoon at the Hungaroring.
His time of one minute 16.651 seconds in temperatures of 29 degrees centigrade compared to his 2000 pole of 1:17.514 and was 0.083 clear of his Brazilian team mate Rubens Barrichello.
McLaren's double champion Mika Hakkinen was third quickest in 1:16.789 ahead of Schumacher's younger brother Ralf in a Williams in 1:17.308.
Hakkinen's team mate David Coulthard, Schumacher's championship rival who is 37 points adrift of the German, was 10th fastest after sitting out the second session.
Coulthard had brought the morning session to a halt when he hit a kerb and scattered debris across the track.
Jean Alesi provided a major talking point, dumping his car in the gravel after just four laps of his competitive debut with Jordan and then ending the afternoon with the sixth best time.
