RUC at Strandtown station are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault that took place on the Newtonards road, Belfast early this morning.

A 24-year-old man was found lying on the footpath outside Megain Memorial Church Montrose and Chamberlain streets at around 1.40 a.m. He was admitted to hospital where his condition is described as critical.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is requested to contact detectives at Strandtown station.
