The former head of agricultural programmes at RTÉ and one of Ireland’s foremost agri-journalists, Joe Murray died yesterday evening in St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Dublin.

Murray (74) was an award winning journalist over three decades for television programmes such as On the Landand Landmark; and radio programmes including Farm Weekand various documentaries on RTÉ radio. A native of Co Offaly, Murray won the Agricultural Journalist of the Year award on a number of occasions.

He retired from RTÉ in 1999 but continued to work in journalism.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and five grandchildren.
