Residents get ready for flooding
Residents of Dublin's Ringsend and North Strand areas are bracing themselves for an anxious weekend, watching the River Dodder's water levels, with sandbags at the ready.
Met Éireann has issued a flood warning. A spokesman said between 35 and 50 mm of rain were expected to fall over the weekend. Crucially, however, tides are not predicted to reach the high levels of last February, when Ringsend, Irishtown and the North Strand were so disastrously flooded and hundreds of people were forced to abandon their homes.
Residents of Stella Gardens in Ringsend, where water levels in most homes reached up to three feet in February, were, however, bracing themselves for the worst yesterday.
Ms Theresa Nolan (73), who lives with her brother and sister, in Stella Gardens, said she didn't think she could cope if the Dodder river burst its banks again. People worried about water levels or who wish to report flooding can call Dublin City Council on 1800 293949.
