Williams's appeal against a decision by stewards to blame Ralf Schumacher for a multiple collision at the German Grand Prix this month is under way.

Williams team boss Frank Williams and Schumacher appeared before the sport's governing body, FIA, to challenge the ruling that it was an avoidable crash caused by Schumacher.

The hearing is to be broadcast on television in Germany. If the ruling stands, Schumacher will have to drop 10 positions from his qualifying spot at the start of his next race, the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 24th.

The team and Schumacher do not believe the German driver was exclusively to blame for the collision on the first lap that led to six cars crashing out. The decision will be announced tomorrow.
