Priest stabbed in Co Donegal assault

Gardaí are hunting for a man who stabbed a priest during an attempted burglary in Co Donegal this morning.

Gardaí are hunting for a man who stabbed a priest during an attempted burglary in Co Donegal this morning.

A Garda spokesman said Fr Dinny McGettigan was attacked after he disturbed an intruder at his parochial house in Raphoe at around 2.30 a.m.

The man demanded keys to the parish safe, and then Fr McGettigan was stabbed a number of times during an ensuing struggle. He was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital, where his condition is unknown.

There were no arrests.
